What’s on? A wee bit of winter weather is what.
This tea is a perfect winter elixir, warming, soothing and invigorating all at once, and by a happy coincidence, everything in it is fresh, in season and at the market right now (Mother Nature always has great timing).
The fresh turmeric and ginger have anti-inflammatory properties and will help soothe inflammation in the chest or sinuses, and the lemon will help dry up a runny nose. This tea is also great for the digestion and is an all round healthy start to the day. You can use any raw honey, but Jellybush has proven medicinal qualities: it is anti-inflammatory, antibiotic and will help stimulate your immune system.
Ingredients
- 4cm piece of fresh ginger, grated
- 3cm piece of fresh turmeric, grated
- Juice of one lemon
- 1 tablespoon of raw active Jellybush honey from Garry at the Honey Wagon.
Method
- Bring one litre of water to the boil in a small saucepan, Add ginger, turmeric and simmer gently for 10-15 minutes.
- Remove from heat and cool for five to 10 minutes before adding lemon juice and honey (this will ensure you retain the honey’s medicinal qualities).
For cold, flu and sore throats, you can also take Jellybush honey on its own. Take one teaspoon 3-4 few times a day, allowing it to slowly melt in your mouth and coat your throat.
