Last week, the Mullumbimby Farmers Market transformed into a haven for native Australian flavours with their Harvest Food Trail Bush Tucker experience! It was a feast for the senses, filled with the opportunity to touch, taste, smell, and devour incredible dishes.
Leading the charge were two culinary powerhouses: Mindy Woods, the first Indigenous female hatted chef in Australia*, and Rebecca Barnes, a bush tucker expert who’s been nurturing these native plants for an impressive 25 years.
Mindy’s cooking demonstration was a revelation, showcasing her expertise in transforming native ingredients into mouthwatering creations. Rebecca, with her unparalleled knowledge accumulated over two and a half decades, shared everything there is to know about growing, identifying, and appreciating the unique sensory experience of bush tucker.
Together, Mindy and Rebecca created an unforgettable event. Their combined passion and knowledge – Mindy’s culinary genius and Rebecca’s bush tucker mastery – ensured everyone walked away with a newfound appreciation for this incredible cuisine.
Many of the ingredients used can be bought from Rebecca Barnes from Playing with Fire stall at Mullum Farmer’s Market every Friday from 7am to 11am and New Brighton Farmers Market every Tuesday from 8am to 11am
