If you are looking to purchase roasts and seafood for your Christmas celebrations, shopping at your local farmers market is a wonderful way to support local farmers and food security. The stallholders have a commitment to sustainable meat production that is humanely raised on their family farms. They keep production at a level that‘s kind to the animals and the land.

Misty Creek Farm

Tom and Nicole will be offering  grassfed chickens raised on their farm using organic and regenerative farming principles.

They live freely and foraging happily having access to fresh pasture bugs and insects while they fertilise the ground which will then be planted out with veggies and fruit trees. This way of raising chicken is far beyond “so called “free Range” and even the standard certified organic chicken

JJ’s Seafood

John and Julie Joblin will be bringing their fresh catch to New Brighton and Mullumbimby Farmers Markets on Friday, Christmas Eve. What they have available will depend on the catch the day prior but they expect to have prawns, whiting and snapper fresh off the boat which will be available to the first in best dressed (it will be busy!). If you’re keen to know exactly what they have available check out their Facebook page the day prior.

Hayters Hill Farm

At the Hayters Hill Farm butcher shop they do things the traditional way.

The beef is aged to develop both its flavour and its tenderness; the hams, bacon and corned beef are cured using age-old techniques, avoiding the use of nitrates, and their sausages are made gluten and preservative-free.

Expect to see traditional ham and pork roasts, steaks and sausages. It is a good idea to drop in to the markets the week prior to see Pete to guarantee your order.

Local Dorper Lamb
Warren’s lamb is fed on natural grasses under an improved high-protein pasture program. He offers a premium quality product and you know exactly where it is coming from. They will have legs, shoulder and cutlets available and again suggests it is a good idea to pre-order at the markets prior to Christmas Eve.

Esperanza Farm

Pasture-raised, free-range pork where the Black and Berkshire pigs are free to indulge their natural behaviour. They wallow, they play, they forage.

Jerrod will have Christmas hams and pork rolled roasts available. Order at the stall prior or by email [email protected]

You can also come along on the day and see what is available.

New Brighton Farmers Market is on Tuesday 8am-11am and Mullumbimby Farmers Market is Friday (including Christmas Eve) 7am-11am.
