The cooler months are peak season for citrus on the Northern Rivers and there is already plenty of variety to choose from at the markets.

Native finger limes are available at Playing With Fire and Nev Singh Bananas; limes and lemons can be found at Jumping Red Ant, and citrus growers Rancho Relaxo (who are also known for their citrus cordials) have limes, lemons and mandarins, as well the first of their delicious blood oranges. Federal growers Organic Forrest also have lemons, with their oranges on their way in coming weeks. Kate Thompson, of the Organic Avocado, will also be back in the next few weeks with her organic mandarins.

Fire Cider

Alongside their fresh organic turmeric, ginger, garlic, lemons, fresh greens and fermented kombucha and jamu, Federal farmers Organic Forrest now also have a freshly brewed batch of their famous Fire Cider available from their stall. A firey ferment made with apple cider vinegar, horseradish, ginger, garlic, pepper, chilli and honey, a small dose each day is sure to keep your immune system strong and ward off the winter bugs.

Pinapples

Bangalow Farm are back at the Mullumbimby Farmers Markets, with potatoes, Jerusalem artichokes, and loads of their of their sweet, fragrant fresh pineapples.

Turmeric and Nut Pate

Finding themselves with an abundance of turmeric on their farm at The Pocket, Rob and Duska of The Spice Palace decided to create a fresh new product to add to their range. Made with local macadamias and macadamia oil, almonds, turmeric, lemon juice, nutritional yeast and live cultures starter, it’s has a lovely savoury flavour and is a little like cashew cheese, says Rob.
